Antivirus
Game entry by Harry Denholm into Ludum Dare 48Hr Coding Competition (theme : "A Guardian Game. Protect!")

The idea behind Antivirus is to protect your human host from a barrage of incoming viral strands, all wanting to infect and destroy! You can do this by placing chemical blockers in the way of the virii, thus defending your host. However, each virus is different, and you will have to coordinate your chemicals to properly destroy the virii in time!

This is what a viral strand looks like. Ugly!

These will fall from above, all heading directly into the bloodstream of your human host! Down the bottom of the screen you can see the virii target :

If a viral strand penetrates the skin, you will lose health. If your health drops to 0... you're D.O.A. So how can you stop this bacterial onslaught?

By using these! These are chemical blockers:

You can see that they have colours, just like the virii do. Each viral strand has a colour code, which your blockers must replicate, and match up with perfectly to properly destroy the virus.

This virus is defeated as soon as it touches that blocker!

To create blockers, you use the mouse and the keyboard - the mouse for positioning the blockers on screen, underneith the virii.

To place a blocker, use the LEFT mouse button.
To remove a sequence you have been building, use the RIGHT mouse button.
To remove just the last segment of a sequence, use the MIDDLE mouse button.

The keyboard lets you tap out your colour sequence to use, using the following keys:

The challenge behind Antivirus is all about trying to create the blockers and coordinating your eyes and your fingers! Once the virii start tumbling faster, you will need to have those keys memorised! Earlier difficulty levels don't have all the colours active - only the hardcore level will have all 6 colours coming atcha!

Luckily, you have some help in the form of retrovirii - these special viral strands have a distinctive look :

If you can successfully block one, you not only get a load of extra points on your score, but a booster into your health!

And its that simple! I recommend you start on easy to get familiar with the concept and start learning the keys.. the hardcore difficulty mode is tough! don't jump into it straight away :-)

Enjoy, hope it works on your machine!
